I then ran across this interesting fact:
The color of a yolk is determined by the chicken's diet!
That totally threw me! I just thought they were yellow no matter what. But apparently, since most people prefer that bright yellow color, farmers make sure that they eat plenty of yellow food (corn meal and such). If they were to feed them a colorless meal (white corn meal, for example) the yolk would be white.
I wonder if they put food coloring in the feed if they could make eggs with a whole rainbow of colors. How would that be for Easter? I'm still pondering this one. It's probably my favorite egg fact right now.
